How to Get to Heaven

1 John 5:13 – “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…”

First, you must realize that God’s Word says we are all sinners and our sin has separated us from a holy God.

Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Romans 3:10, “As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one.”

James 2:10, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

Second, you must realize that as a sinner you owe a penalty.

Romans 6:23a, “For the wages of sin is death…”

Revelation 20:14, 15 – “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Thirdly, you must realize that Jesus Christ, God’s perfect sacrifice, has already paid our sin debt.

Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”Salvation is by grace through faith and not by works.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Jesus died upon the cross. He did not stay dead. Instead, he rose again victorious over sin, death, and the grave.

Fourthly, you must receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and what He did for you on the cross of Calvary.

John 1:12a, “But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God…”

Romans 6:23b, “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 10:9, 10 – “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

A person must repent (have a willingness to turn from sin – to say the same thing about sin that God does) in order to be saved.

The word “believe” means to trust or depend on. It is not just a mental assent, but a placing of your faith upon Christ. He is the only one who can get you to heaven.

If you today realize that you are a sinner, that your sin deserves punishment, that Christ paid the penalty for your sins on the cross, and if you will in simple faith repent of your sins and ask Christ to save you, why not pray something like this…  (Again it is not a prayer that saves you, but truly trusting in Christ alone for salvation).

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. And I know that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again for me. Please forgive me of my sins, come into my heart, and save me right now. I place my faith in you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
